I'm not sure if you're replying to me, but no, I wouldn't recommend Fox or MSNBC etc. Waco isn't a topic I'm an expert on, but the behavior of religious cults is a topic I'm quite familiar with. If I were you I'd look for more objective scholarly or journalistic reportage on the topic, not roam around the internet reading about it, 'cus that's going to be mostly conspiracy buffs. Even high school kids know wikipedia doesn't cut it as a critical source. Most articles on wikipedia related to controversial subjects are train wrecks with every comma and semi-colon disputed by partisans on either side of an issue, and the so-called moderators are often high school students themselves. People with an axe to grind on a particular topic will babysit "their" articles around the clock, or work in shifts to revert edits made by people they perceive as enemies. Take a look at pages related to Scientology, for instance.

I have refrained from posting myself because almost by defn anyone assoc with leading a "cult" is a criminal (and that goes for lots of mainstream religions...sorry).

I will bring it back to Jerry, as he defn had an issue with anyone that "had their fist out" and that, first and foremost, is what all the leaders of these wacko cults do/did...

Now, does that mean I defend my gobermint, right or wrong? No. But, I do know a cult when I see one...and this, was defn one...

And, for the record, NO, you do not have the right to impose your religious beliefs on innocents (under 18). The constitution says so--too many whackos defend their fundamentally selfish behavior under the banner of religious freedom...

So religious parents aren't allowed to talk about their beliefs with their children until they are 18?

But, it's okay to go the chain supermarkets, department stores, gas stations, day in and day out since the day you are born?

Consumerism and main-stream media becomes as much a religion as anything else...

I mis-spoke: you cannot do WHATEVER you want to them in the name of religion (ie, anything any reasonable individual would view as "harmful")...thus, you cannot deny medical care, generally, or allow for sacrifices, etc., etc.

You get the idea...within bounds, yes, you can; but not to the extreme of the cults in question (or even Mormons marrying off 12 yr old girls, right?).

And, I here on the other--but those are more "indirect" forms of harm, that you and I may agree on, but not everyone (ie, getting them fat on fast food, etc.).

Thanks for the clarification. I am not coming out in support of power-hungry cult leaders, just wanted to support stealyourwife's assertion that the media and gov't will publicize a certain subjective perspective that makes the "normal" people seem vindicated.

Well these "normal" people may not copulate with 14 year olds, but their "normality" allows them to start wars all over the world during the course of which thousands of people are raped, abused, etc. What about all the secret shit the CIA/FBI does to accomplish some obscure agenda?

You get one guy brainwashing a compound of people in Texas and everyone flips a shit. There's millions of people brainwashed by the corporate media and gov't and either nobody bats an eye or says thats old news.

Actually, a lot of us have noticed things like that since the 60s!
